About Startup Labs

Covered from floor to ceiling in whiteboards, Startup Labs provides students with ample room to dream big, new ideas and create plans to make those ideas happen. The space also allows students the room and tools they need to prototype and build creative projects and features equipment that includes a ShopBot 3D wood router, Epilog Laser engraver, 3D printers, a vinyl cutter, and a variety of hand tools, among other equipment. A safety and training program educates users on how to utilize equipment.

A revamped 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse space outfitted with prototyping equipment, as well as cool and funky furniture, Startup Labs is a unique space in our Technology Center building that opened in 2012 and continues to be enhanced and remodeled to meet student collaboration needs.

Reserving Space at Startup Labs

Startup Labs is a great space for large events, club meetings, hands-on workshops and more, and reservation requests may be submitted by any ASU student, faculty or staff member.

Three sections of the Startup Labs space may be reserved for large groups:

Creative Commons (maximum capacity of 49)

In addition, Startup Labs offers meeting rooms to accommodate groups of up to 8. These rooms can be reserved online. Alternately, meeting rooms may be used on a first-come, first-served basis. (Daily reservations posted on room doors.)

Startup Labs Workshop Schedule

All users of Startup Labs prototyping equipment must complete training on equipment before they may be granted access to use it.

Any Polytechnic School student, faculty or staff can register for a training workshop. Training workshops provide the opportunity to learn how to use equipment, including safety procedures. Once trained, students, faculty and staff can proceed with using Startup Labs prototyping equipment with minimal supervision.

Please note: Many Startup Labs users want to enroll in workshops, so please do not abuse the ability to register. If you can't attend a workshop you’ve registered for, please cancel your registration at least 24 hours in advance. Failing to cancel a workshop registration 24 hours in advance and/or no-showing more than three times will result in a 1 semester workshop registration suspension. You will not be allowed to register for any workshops for the remainder of the semester.
